The Association of Private Schools Chiang Mai (APSC, the Office of Private Education Commission (OPEC) and Chiang Mai Province held the ASEAN Educational Challenge 2012 in order create an opportunity for youths in ten ASEAN countries to exchange experience and expertise through the various activities to fully lead up to ASEAN community in 2015. Moreover, it was to appoint Chiang Mai as “the Most Splendid City of Culture”. The event was held during 25 – 27 August 2012 at Chiang Mai University Convention Center. For the academic seminar on 25th August, Varee Chiangmai School, as the host of the event, aimed to drive Thai education into the universal-standard education and to encourage the “change” to happen in progressive and developed ways by prioritizing English learning, which is the universal language accepted and utilized by people around the world. Furthermore, the event got a well-accepted attention by many administrators of academies, English teachers (both Thais and foreigners) and many students from ASEAN countries. In the seminar under the topic “Riding the wave of Educational Change as English becomes the Language of ASEAN”, the event got an honor from various academic experts becoming guest speakers in order to expertise their using and learning English methods to audiences. Those honorable guest speakers were Dr. Netpreeya Choomchaiyo (known as Kru Kate), who is the director of Kru Kate Language Institute and presenter of ASEAN Talk, ASEAN Biz programs of ASEAN TV broadcasted in ASEAN region, Mr. Andrew Elliot, who is the long period-experienced educational consultant from being a consultant for various academies around the world with Master Degree from Oxford University and Cambridge University, and Miss Trasvin Jittidecharak, who is the owner of Silkworm Books and an advisor to the Executive Board of the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (PUBAT). The seminar was held at seminar room 1, Chiang Mai University Convention Center from 10.00 A.M. to 4.00 P.M.
